The video above was taken in 2011 Dagupan Bangus Festival, and I'm featuring it courtesy of the uploader.
I remember this very day, my family was here just passing by going to University Of Luzon to enroll our son. It so happened that the streets of Dagupan were closed for traffic so we had to walk the long way across the next avenue in the heat of the afternoon sun. Thankfully there was much to see as we kept walking, and so we took pictures with the Canon Powershot A2300 camera I always kept in my bag. Who would've guessed it would come in handy that day? :)
Gilon gilon ed Dalan is one of those events that we miss in the celebration since the pandemic. The last street dancing festival was in 2019. At this moment, despite the crowded election rallies in the Philippines, they have not included Gilon gilon ed Dalan event for Dagupan Bangus Festival. It is not indeed wise to have this event since it has not been declared endemic in the Philippines.
"Gilon gilon ed Dalan" is a Pangasinan phrase which means artistic interpretation of harvesting fish through dance and costume. "Gilon-gilon" in Pangasinan language- means fish harvest.
The vibrant and colourful Gilon-Gilon ed Dalan street dance competition is one of the main events of Dagupan's yearly Bangus Festival, celebrated every April before the main event held every April 30 - May 1st.
It is one of the events tourists and guests shouldn't miss!
